Firstly, cashmere comes from goat and wool is produced by sheep. And cashmere is more rare than wool, because one sheep can produce several wool sweaters but dozens of goats can only create one. So as a matter of course, the price of cashmere is deserved expensive than wool.
Secondly, super fine and soft wool also can’t be called cashmere. We can see their differences clearly with a microscope: cashmere is up to ~16 microns in diameter, much thinner than wool; the cuticle of wool is sharp, and cashmere scales is round; cashmere has no medulla layer.
Cashmere is much warmer than wool and feels more smoothly, if slightly fold, just hang it one night and then it can restore smooth. Cashmere product is shrink resistant after washing.
In addition, the wool is produced mostly from the southern hemisphere, such as Australia, and cashmere mainly comes from the northern hemisphere. The output of cashmere in China is accounting for about 50%~60% of the world, and the quality of Chinese cashmere is the best.
Almost all raw cashmere materials of the international top brands are from China. Although there are a lot of famous brands of cashmere in Europe, such as the UK and Italy, but this two countries do not produce raw cashmere material in fact.
