Yak – precious and excellent natural fibre

Yak fibre, is the finehair around the yak head and neck, with a diameter of less than 20 microns and lengthof 34 to 45 mm. there is a layer of dense, precious brown hairs under the roughblack yak hair which is called by local herdsmen "library Khullu" .it protects yak against the bitter cold. This layer of fluff can only beremoved by hand bit by bit in every spring when yak hair removes naturally. yakwool was used by tibetans to make simple living things in the past. Now, it notonly brings stability to the Tibetan people, but also becomes the luxury ofinternational fashion.


The disadvantage of yak is that it is very troublesome and takes a long workingperiod to make. And it has poor acid and alkalinity tolerance. Therefore, it needspecial attention when wearing and washing. Yak, known as the highland boat, isa unique breed of cattle that grows on the Tibetan plateau and its adjacentalpine grasslands, known in Tibetan as yag. China has 3000 years’s of historyof yak domesticated. There exists more than 12 million yak animal distributed  around Tibet, Sichuan, Gansu and otherprovinces, accounting for more than 85% of the world total Numbers. The rest aredistributed in Mongolia, the Soviet union and central Asia. Yak lives at thehighest altitude in the world. Yak fibre is collected once a year, and theannual output of adult yaks is 1.17 ~ 2.62kg. The young cattle are 1.30 ~1.35kg, of which the coarse hair and the fine fibre are half. Yak fibre is veryfine with a diameter of less than 20 microns, with a length of 3.4 ~ 4.5 cm. yakfibre is soft with good luster and a strong elasticity. Yak wool is warmer andsofter than ordinary wool, and has been widely applied in the field of garmentproduction in recent years.
