You may see yak yarn in market. Do you know what is yak? Yak yarn is made from yak wool from yak. Yak is animal living in the Qinghai-Tibet plateau it grow in the alpine grassland unique of cattle, the Tibetan language called YAG. Yak is what is called the boat of the plateau. Yak lives in the highest altitude of all mammals. Since 3000 years ago China started domesticate yak. Yak mainly distributed in Qinghai, Tibei, Sichuan, Gansu provinces etc. which produce more than 85 percent of the world total, others are distributed in Mongolia, the Soviet union and central Asia.

An adult yak produce about 1.17 to 2.62 kg yak hair, infant ox about 1.30 to 1.35 kg which accounts for half of all and fluff kemp. Yak hair is about 18 to 20 microns in diameter and 2.8 to 3.0 cm in length. with irregular bending, flake show cricoid closely held close, soft gloss, elasticity, feel slippery waxy. Yak hair is softer and warmer than ordinary wool. In recent years yak has more widely used in yarn and garment production.
