What is “NM”?

The fineness of yarn can be divided into four criteria: English count, metric count, tex and denior.

1.English cotton yarn number(NE): Under convention moisture regain, one pound is equal to 840 yards and also called one count. Therefore, if there are 21 counts, the yarns used in all are 21×840 yards. The bigger the counts are , the thinner the fineness will be. It is widely used in many companies, though it is not statutory standard in China, especially in cotton textile industry.

2.Metric count: Under convention moisture, one gram is equal to one meter, also called one count. If one gram yarn is 200 meters, the fineness then is 200 counts. The bigger the count is, the thinner the yarn fineness will be.

3.Tex is also called number, which refers to the gram of 1000 meter yarn under convention moisture regain.
