Nowadays, as a popular effect fancy yarn type, slub yarn is more and more widely used in fabrics and knitwear. Slub yarn is really a special yarn which is spun intentionally to get an irregular shape in terms of length and diameter. It is any kind of fiber that is spun unevenly with slubs (thicker sections along the yarn) in it.
In fact, it used to just be a mistake that beginning spinners made and it was once seen only as a defect at the beginning. However, its unique shape has proven to be an advantage in some instances.
There was an early problem during the automated carding and spinning processes. That was the appearance of an incidental section of the yarn, and mostly, it was fuller than the yarn was intended to be. Slub yarn has soft slubs, or lumps and that would appear from time to time over each run, and meanwhile, it would have to be removed before the material would be ready for warping or twisting.
The intentional pattern of slub yarn is adjusted to allow the presence of the fuller slubs in the yarn itself. The result is that when the fabric is woven or knitwear is knitted, the slubs form a continuous pattern in the material often with a very pleasing effect. And this pattern really gives fabric and knitwear more personality.
Over time, the concept of yarns containing a high count of slubs as a textural and style alternative began to develop. And slub yarn becomes a popular yarn type and even a fashion symbol and really pleases lots of customers.
