Cashmere and wool is completely two different fiber. There are some illegal businessmen sell fake cashmere sweater that is actually made from fine wool material. No matter how soft or smooth the wool product is processed, it could not be compared with cashmere. For many buyers it is not easy to distinguish cashmere product from wool product. Here we will introduce some difference of cashmere and wool.

1. Different fiber structure: the general diameter of cashmere fiber is 14-16 micron, the finer, the better. Consinee only use cashmere below 15.5 microns and below 15.0micron for baby cashmere. while many other supplier use 16.0 micron even thicker to reduce the cost. Wool fiber is much thicker than cashmere, which is range from 16micron to 22.5+ microns. Even for the superfine wool with the same thickness with cashmere, it is totally different from cashmere. in the inspection of microscope,  cashmere has round squama, while wool fiber has pointed squama. And cashmere does not have medulla.  

2. Different performance: cashmere sweater is much softer, warmer and smoother than wool sweater. The heat retention property of cashmere is about 1.5 to 2 times better than that of wool. If it wrinkles you can hang it up for a night it can return to its original shape. Besides, cashmere product would not shrink after wash.

3. Different production area: cashmere goat is mainly bred in Northern hemisphere and China is best cashmere production area accounting for 60% of total global amount. While wool is mainly produced in by sheep in southern hemisphere in which Australia produces the most and best quality wool material.

4. Different market price: One sheep can produce several kilos wool material each year but only about 200 grams can be combed off from goat. Cashmere material is much expensive than wool material. The price of cashmere product is about ten times higher than that of wool product. So if you bought a very cheap cashmere sweater you might buy the fake cashmere or it have very low content cashmere.
